Today, I had a serious conversation with myself about whether or not I should change the name of this podcast. I'm not sure if I'm having a midlife crisis or if it's because of all the things that are going on, which I'll explain in a minute. But it really got me seriously thinking about a more significant topic – the evolution of oneself over time.

Welcome back to the Badass is the New Black podcast. I'm your host, Krissy Chin. This is a crucial topic because it forms the foundation of who you are, what you do, and how you want to show up. When you are your true, authentic self, it allows you to enjoy what you do. This reflection might have arisen because Claire and I are planning a rebrand on the Krissy Chin website. It will soon become knccreative.com. Thinking about the book coming out and the pressure to consider how I present myself as a brand made me question whether the current podcast name truly resonates with who I am.

The permanence of branding, especially when tied to a book launch, can feel daunting. Yet, I always remind our students that change is possible at any time. Despite the fear of altering established online handles and URLs, it's essential to reassess whether they align with your authentic self. I've experienced this firsthand – from "Krissy Chin" to "The Krissy Chin" due to an Instagram hack. It no longer feels entirely true to me.

Reflecting on the person I was in 2019 when I started this podcast, I realize I'm the same person at the core. However, in 2019, I was still exploring and figuring out how to authentically show up. The term "Badass" seemed fitting then, influenced by various cultural references I admired. However, as time passed, I questioned whether it truly represents who I am.

Digging into my notes, I found an interesting discovery. In 2018, I toyed with the idea of a book titled "The Badass Boss Babe" with sassy chapter titles. This theme carried into the podcast launch as "Badass is the New Black." Looking back, I realize it may not authentically reflect my true self. It's crucial to acknowledge that as individuals, we evolve, and what felt right in the past may need reconsideration.

This theme came up during a Thanksgiving conversation with my sister, Katie. She had always been passionate about art but pursued a different path due to societal expectations about the lack of financial stability in art. Reflecting on who she truly is, she's now rediscovering her artistic side and incorporating it into her life, thanks to unexpected opportunities.

As we approach the end of the year, it's an ideal time to reflect on how we show up authentically. Are we hindered by external influences, societal expectations, or past decisions? The story of a community member who went viral by authentically sharing her beliefs and passions on social media underscores the power of being true to oneself.

This reflection is crucial, especially for those running a business or building a personal brand. Authenticity is palpable, and if you're not true to yourself, it becomes challenging to connect with your audience genuinely. Remember, it's never too late to redefine your brand and show up authentically.

So, take a moment to reflect on how you're showing up today. Is it in alignment with your true, authentic self? If not, give yourself permission to make a plan for change. Your journey may require some digging, shadow work, and uncomfortable moments, but it's worth it. Allow yourself the freedom to evolve, and remember, nothing is set in stone.
